How Can I Make Money Online?

A few years ago, this is the question I was asking myself… “How can I make money online?” I had a few different reasons for pondering this, but the main reason was that working for an hourly wage was NOT going to get my family to where we wanted to be!

What I Found Out

As you may have already found out, there are many, many ways to make money online. The way we choose will depend on where our interests lie, and which has the most potential for lasting income as well as passive income.

Unfortunately, there are also a ton of scams out there. Promises of untold wealth with very little effort. The surest way of knowing something is a scam, is if you are asked for your credit card info before you get more details on what you are actually paying for!

Many websites will tell you that you can get rich with just a few clicks on your computer! They say with just a few minutes a day, you can earn hundreds of thousands of dollars! And that sounds so appealing to us, that wealth can happen quickly without a lot of work on our part.

The truth is, there is a lot of money to be made in the online world.

But it WILL take hard work, time,

and consistency to build your business to the point that it is making the income you are looking for!!

My Top 5 Ways To Make Money Online

I narrowed down all the ways to make money online to the top 5 that appeal to me. These are ways I am already making money, and ways I am planning to make money with in the future.

I am always curious why MLM company’s leave a bad taste in some peoples mouths. I have been a part of several MLM company’s, and it has always been a positive experience!

A couple of them I was only part of to get product I wanted at a 25% discount. I sold a little to friends and family, but once I had what I wanted, I quit being a rep for that company.

The one I am currently involved in, I am actually in it as a business to make money. Why? Because I am passionate about the product, it’s owners and leaders are amazing people, and it’s a young company so the potential is huge.

The hard truth is that less 1 out of 100 reps for MLM company’s actually make a profit.

That sounds rough, but how is that any different from small brick and mortar company’s? Though the numbers vary, some stats say 50% of new businesses fail within their first year, others say 1 in 9…

So how DO you succeed in an MLM?

Well first of all, make sure it’s a product you are passionate about. If I were to join a company that sold skin care or essential oils, I would fail to promote that product properly, because I am not interested in it. Just because I use the products, does not mean I will be a good ambassador for the product.

You also have to believe in the company and the quality of the products. If you don’t, then people who have negative things to say about it will bring you down and make you doubt yourself and the company. But when you KNOW that it is the best product, and are proud to be a part of that company, you can dust off someones negative opinion no problem!

The very best time to join an MLM is when it is fairly young, and on the upward trend. The market will not be saturated with reps yet, and people will not have product fatigue. The downside to joining a young company? You will have to stick through the learning and building phases…it’s not always a smooth ride, but if you stick it out, it will be worth it!

But most of all, YOU have to WORK! Many people do not treat their MLM as a business. You have to consistently work your business every single day, the same as you would if you had a physical business that you showed up at every day. You need to take part in any training the company provides and you need to find other people to join your team that are as passionate about the product as you are!

The beauty of our world today, is that most of your business can be conducted online. Through social media and through blogs and videos and shopping links, your business can flourish right from your own home!!

So yes, MLM can provide you a good income, but you will have to work for it!!

Do you love to write? Do you feel you can provide knowledge and useful information to others who are looking for it?

You could make money blogging! How?

Well, first identify what gets you excited, what you could talk about all day. Is it gardening? Running? Music? The list can go on and on, but find out what is your THING!

When you know what your niche is, flesh out all the topics you can write about…this will end up evolving over time, so don’t stress too much about this! This will give you tons of ideas to keep your blog interesting and fresh.

So once you have these ideas, you need a website. (If you are new to the website thing, keep reading…I will recommend ways to do this.) The name you choose for your website can really be anything you want, but it will most likely be something related to your niche.

Once you have a website up, you need to start writing consistently! Whether you choose to blog every single day, twice a week, or once a week, your loyal readers want to know when they can expect new content to show up! Also, when you are applying to be an affiliate of a company (more on that later), some of them will be looking at how much content you have and how many people are reading your blog… these usually go hand in hand.

So you have content and you have readers….how do you make money??

The short answer is through ads and affiliate links.

Companies can run ads on your website, and when your readers click on those ads and purchase something, you will get a commission from that company.

When there is a product you like related to your niche, you can do reviews on these products, and recommend them to your readers. When they click on the link you have provided and make a purchase, you earn a commission!

If you are like me when I first started, I had no idea where to even begin. There are so many places where you can go to get a website, but then what? Where do I go from there? How to I get people to my website? How do I get ads?

I looked up so many company’s, but most wanted money before teaching me what I needed to know. Or they would offer a free trial, but I needed to enter my credit card before accessing that free trial….and I am not good at remembering to cancel things if I don’t use them, so I didn’t want to do this and then have charges that I didn’t want!

I came across a company that said they provided the best training and support in the industry. Anyone can claim this though. But what really caught my attention was that I could access the first phase of training (10 lessons) for free, without entering my credit card. What?!?

I literally had nothing to lose. This first phase actually taught me how to set up a website and gave 2 free websites on their platform that I could have for

ever with the free starter membership.

In the end, I was so impressed with the training, that I signed up to access all the training and the huge amount of support from the owners and other members.

I seriously recommend looking into this company, as you literally have nothing to lose, but a lot of knowledge to gain!

Have you seen the social media ads or ads elsewhere on the internet that promise to teach you how to do something in their course?

You buy their course, sometimes even inexpensively, and you learn how to do something you have been wanting to do for a long time!

If there is something you are good at, and people are always asking you for advice on how to do that something…why not write a “how-to” manual that you can sell?

You can decide on how long or short the course is, but make sure people will feel like they got value for the money they paid for it. I have paid as little as $20 for a shorter course, and $100+ dollars for a long course that had options for support and interaction and questions!

When you are writing, make it easy to read. You may wax eloquent and sound profoundly wise, but if your readers are not “getting it”, they won’t be recommending it to others and your success will be limited.

If you are not confident in how to make a great course or e-book, it is probably a good idea to buy someone else “how-to” book or course on writing a course, instead of spending your time on trial and error.

The beauty of this is that you do the work once, and it pays over and over! You will have to put it out there and advertise either through paid ads or through your social media platform, but once it takes off, you can make great residual income!

This is one of the ways of making money online that is a goal of mine. I have mainly focused on Affiliate Marketing and Blogging, but this would be a fun adventure in the near future!

I personally know people who make their living this way. This is different then some other ways I have recommended because you are actually obtaining and selling products.

With the MLM way, usually people are ordering online from your website, (or you are ordering for them) and the product gets sent directly to the person ordering. So you don’t actually have to package and sell items.

If you are in any ways craft or have unique items you make, you can sell them on Etsy. A friend of mine who is a great artist, sells her paintings on Etsy. She takes a picture, posts it, and then packages the painting and ships it off to the person who bought it.

Same goes for someone I know who makes awesome crocheted items.

She makes patterns and crochets popular characters from movies or other famous people. She sells both the pattern and the items she makes on Etsy. The patterns can just be digitally sent, but the other items get packaged and shipped.

Last year I saw someone who I hadn’t seen for many, many years. While we were talking, she got a notification of something that had sold on her Ebay store. I was curious, so I asked what exactly she sold in her Ebay store.

She said everything and anything! I was still confused and she explained it to me. She would go to farmers markets, garage sales, buy and sells online, and buy things to put in her store and sell them at a higher price then she paid. Sounds so simple!!

But she had been doing it for years and knew what to look for and only sold things that were good quality. She was honest with any flaws in the item and provided good customer service so had a good rating.

If you are considering earning money this way, make sure you check out any fees related to these online platforms. They don’t seem to be huge, but definitely something to consider before jumping in!

A good way to earn some money with physical items, but definitely requires a decent amount of time besides the online portion of it to buy and package and ship these items!

5.Affiliate Marketing

What is affiliate marketing?

Affiliate Marketing is the process in which an individual can earn commission by promoting a company’s product.

It sounds simple and it really is…in theory!

Things you need to know are which company’s offer affiliate programs, which ones are best suited to your niche, what their commission rates are, and how they pay their affiliates.

One way to do this is to type in the company or product you want to promote into google and add “+affiliate program” before you hit search.

The company I am with has lists of thousands of affiliate programs I had not even thought of before!!

So, like I have already said, you earn these commissions when you promote an item, your reader clicks the link, and then purchases that item through your link.

So how do you start if you do not know anything about affiliate marketing?

This link will teach you everything you need to know. I am serious. I am so skeptical about claims company’s make, but I took a chance on this one because it was 100% free to start learning. Literally, it’s a no brainer!!

My advice to you is, figure out what is the best option for you to start earning an income online. There is not a “one size fits all” answer to that, because we are all different!

Expect to work for your money. No matter what option you choose, you will still have to put in the effort to see the results. Stay away from claims that you will earn money fast and easy!! There really is no such thing as everything for nothing.

Your earnings will be based on the effort you put in. If you work on your business 1 or 2 days a week, don’t expect your business to grow and succeed. Treat it like a business and work on it in some way, shape or form, at least 5 days a week.

Don’t give up if you don’t earn a lot of money in the first month, two months, or three months…it takes time to build a business no matter what business you choose!! I suggest Committing to something for a year before giving up. Success often follows on the heals of what you may think is failure!

Once you are established, your earning potential is huge. This is when you will start seeing more residual and passive income. But this is not the time to quit! Keep working and enjoying the fruits of your labors!
